You must review the content of your credit report on a regular basis and at least once a year, all taxpayers should follow these steps to protect your credit report:


  • Order your credit report from all major credit bureaus: Transunion, Equifax, and Experian, you can order them at no cost at www.annualcreditreport.com
  • This is a non commercial website, the Annual Credit Report is the only real source for no cost credit reports, and is authorized by federal law.
  • Credit reports affect mortgage rates, rental of apartments applications, job applications, and credit card approvals.
  • All taxpayers must ensure that the information on all credit reports is up to date and correct.
  • A negative occurrence in a credit card payment can take up to two months to be reported in a credit report.
  • When you review your credit report make sure that you recognize all loans, and closed and open accounts on the report.
