IDENTITY THEFT

If you suspect that you are a victim of identity theft, you should follow the next steps:

  • Order a credit report from all the three major credit bureaus to verify that all credit card accounts, and and loans are yours
  • Order a transcript of wages from the Internal Revenue Service, to find out if somebody else is working under your social security number or name
  • If the history of your income is compromised you need to file a claim at the police station of the town where you live, you will need that police report to continue with your identity theft claim
  • You will need to file an extended fraud claim with all the major credit bureaus if your credit is compromised, that will alert all merchants and lenders for 7 years
  • If your income is compromised you will need to file a formal complaint with the Internal Revenue Service, and obtain a security tax filing identification number
